Kids and dogs are one of those things that just seem to go together, and as anyone who has experienced this unique type of friendship will tell you, there is nothing in this world like the loyalty of a good dog.

Anyone who has grown up with dogs can remember back to their childhood and recall the name of their first four-legged friend. The name is usually something like Blacky, Buddy or Bo and the person will smile, recalling stories involving misadventures, games and companionship that only man’s best friend can provide.

This relationship is one that has also been favored by Hollywood through the years in many films such as, Old Yeller, Benji, The Wizard of Oz and even this year’s Marley and Me.

The seemingly natural bond between kids and dogs has led to more than one heart warming home video as well. With a small child learning to walking while holding on to the tail of a patient, slow moving and tolerant mutt, or a teenage boy, usually too cool to show he cares, breaking down and planting a big’ol kiss on the nose of a poodle. Dogs just seem to bring out the best in our kids and our families.

Dogs have even been known to visit children in long term care hospitals and evoke tremendous healing and positive energy into every room they enter. The children just seem to know that they are in the presence of pure joy, unconditional love and someone who truly cares, even though the dog does not have the spoken words to say so.

Children with mental and physical disabilities will often have a dog as a helper or aid, proving that this undeniable connection, can overcome even the most difficult of barriers.

Even the healthiest and happiest child will have difficult times while growing up, but having a dependable fury friend that is always there, can change everything
